When Hampton Court Went Into the Jungle

104 years of legacy met a timeless tale as CJM Hampton Court brought “The Jungle Book – An Adaptation” alive on stage

Mussoorie | October 5: For one evening, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Hampton Court, seemed to leave its classrooms behind and step straight into the jungle.

The school came alive with colour, music, dance and drama as CJM Hampton Court presented “The Jungle Book – An Adaptation,” bringing the timeless adventures of Mowgli and his companions to the stage through the energy, imagination and theatrical talent of its students.

The opening presentation brought together parents, students, educators, distinguished guests and representatives of various schools for an evening that celebrated creativity, confidence and the performing arts.

The occasion was graced by Brother Jeyaseelan, Principal of St. George’s College, as the Chief Guest. Sr. Ivy, Superior and Principal of CJM Hampton Court, along with Sisters and Brothers, principals and representatives of various schools, distinguished guests, teachers, parents and students, were present.

The programme opened with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by prayer and a prayer dance, setting a serene and auspicious tone before the stage gradually transformed into a world of forests, animals and adventure.

The youngest performers from LKG and UKG added their own charm with a graceful welcome dance. This was followed by a presentation tracing the remarkable 104-year journey of the institution, offering the audience a glimpse into Hampton Court’s rich legacy, traditions and enduring values.

And then came the jungle.

Through expressive performances, vibrant costumes, music, dance and carefully crafted stage sequences, the students brought Mowgli and his jungle companions to life, turning the familiar story into an engaging theatrical spectacle.

Yet beneath the entertainment ran a deeper thread.

The production brought alive themes of friendship, courage, loyalty, compassion and harmony with nature — values that remain as relevant to young minds today as they are embedded in the timeless story of The Jungle Book.

More than a stage production, the evening showcased the collective effort of the school community. Students across age groups worked alongside teachers and mentors to create a performance that demanded discipline, teamwork, imagination and confidence.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem.

The Jungle Book may have been the story on stage. But the larger story was the spirit of Hampton Court — 104 years old, yet continuing to give its students a stage on which to imagine, create, perform and grow.

The presentation will continue on October 6, when the remaining parents and guests will get their turn to experience the school’s journey into the jungle.

The finest schools teach them how to become part of one —
with courage in their hearts, compassion in their choices, and imagination in their wings.”
