Mussoorie, July 30: Social worker and blood donation campaigner Sandeep Sahni was felicitated for his unwavering commitment to promoting voluntary blood donation over the past 14 years, during a ceremony held under the aegis of the Rotary Club of Mussoorie.
The event marked the 14th P.P. Kuldeep Raj Sahni Memorial Blood Donation Camp, an initiative launched in memory of Sahni’s late father. Over the years, the campaign has collected more than 2,800 units of blood, making a significant contribution to healthcare and emergency medical services across Uttarakhand.
ITBP Academy Director and Inspector General Girish Chandra Upadhyay, the chief guest, distributed certificates and donor cards to 140 blood donors from this year’s camp, where a total of 251 individuals donated blood. He described blood donation as the highest form of charity, emphasizing that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has consistently supported the initiative and will continue to do so in the future.
Addressing the gathering, Upadhyay praised the donors for helping save countless lives through their selfless contribution. He noted that every unit of donated blood can become a lifeline for patients in critical need.
Welcoming the guests, Rotary Club President Ashwini Mittal said the memorial blood donation drive has become a remarkable tradition over the last 14 years. He pointed out that with each unit of blood capable of benefiting up to three patients, the campaign’s collection of more than 2,800 units has potentially helped over 8,400 people.
Nitin Gupta, Chairman of the Blood Donation Camp, credited the success of the initiative to the collective efforts of campaign coordinator Sandeep Sahni, the R.N. Bhargava Alumni Association, Rotary members and numerous volunteers. He also recalled that last year’s camp collected a record 380 units of blood in a single day, an achievement that earned recognition from the Government of Uttarakhand.
Rotary Club Secretary Nupur Karanwal Kaintura presented the chief guest’s profile, while Sandeep Sahni concluded the programme by expressing gratitude to the donors, volunteers and partner organisations for their continued support.
The ceremony was attended by Rotary members, ITBP personnel, volunteers and a large number of blood donors, reaffirming the community’s commitment to voluntary blood donation and the enduring legacy of the P.P. Kuldeep Raj Sahni Memorial Blood Donation Camp.
